Cell phones are expensive pieces of personal equipment, and because you carry them around with you wherever you go they are vulnerable to getting lost or stolen, so make sure you take steps to protect your cell phone and all of the personal details it contains.
- Never open text messages or email files on your cell phone if you are not sure they have been sent by someone you know, or a legitimate business/organization
- Lock your cell phone when you are not using it with a unique password/pin
- Never leave your cell phone unattended
- Disable the Bluetooth connection completely when you are not using your phone
- If you use your multimedia phone to access the Internet ask for further advice from your network provider regarding anti-virus and anti-spyware software
- Check you cell phone bill thoroughly every month, and notify your provider if you find any suspicious calls or charges
- Make sure you know the number to call your provider on just in case your phone is lost or stolen, and also make sure you have jotted down the serial number, so that you can phone up immediately and discontinue the service.
