This is the one of the most popular phone models that LG has put out. It has sold over ten million units of just this one model. The latest “Cookie” is called the “Plus”. It also goes by “Velvet” in some places. It is model GS500 and you can read the low down on it right here in this quick article.
As it is said; “Do not mess with success.”. LG is faithfully obeying this axiom with their line of Cookie model phones. This latest is upgraded to touchphone status. It only weighs 92.5 grams or just over three ounces for you that are in North America. That is super light, but this phone is not a “flagship” model with all the extra goodies. It is 107 millimeters tall, 52.5 millimeters wide and 11.5 millimeters thick. That is just under half an inch thick. This Cookie Plus can fit in a pocket easily.
The screen is the big news about the Plus. It is a resistive touch screen, which means you may need to use your fingernail or stylus to navigate the menus. It is 240 by 400 pixels of resolution and three inches, or 7.62 centimeters, in size. It can show a maximum of 256,000 colors. This is great for an entry level phone that may be your first phone. It contains an accelerometer that changes the screen aspect from portrait to landscape automatically by turning the Cookie Plus on its side. It can also recognize handwriting. The Plus has the unique ability to take a screenshot ( picture ) of a website and send that to a contact using MMS.
Social connectivity is available with the LG Cookie Plus. On the homescreen there are facebook, flickr and twitter widgets. You can also get in touch using email, regular texting, MMS and EMS. There is not an internet messaging feature. The browser does have WAP 2.0 ability and can view XHTML pages on the web. Games are downloadable.
If you want to view documents, the Plus can open most Microsoft products. Excel, powerpoint, and word files are all supported along with portable document files ( .PDF ) files. Java also allows the Plus to have an organizer, voice memo, a music player and a video player. You can download free LG cookie ringtones, wallpapers, games, applications, softwares, themes etc.
The camera section is fairly hefty for a small phone like the cookie. It can take photographs at 3.2 megapixels of power. It does not come with flash. The camera can take video shots at the QVGA level. It runs at twelve frames per second. The videos look like they are made from a “small phone” like this one. For audio, there is a speakerphone and a 3.5 millimeter jack for privacy. The GS500 comes with a FM radio for news or more entertainment.
Calls are connected using quad band GSM and dual band HSDPA networks. For wireless data consumption there is everything except Wi-Fi and infrared connections. The USB connector is the larger cable, not MicroUSB. The battery is a smallish 900 mAh version, rated for about three and half hours of talk time.
As if ten million units ( two million were sold in just four months ) is not enough, LG is preparing their newest batch of Cookies for success. The plus will come in Wine Red, Brown, Baby Pink, Imperial Purple, Silver, Black and White versions. It comes out first in Europe, then to forty five total countries. LG has said they are keeping it affordable to get a taste of their latest Cookie Plus so taking one home with you should not leave a sour taste in your mouth.
