If your friends are more text literate than you are, you may find some messages from them almost indecipherable, and you could feel a bit silly texting back to ask them what they mean. Text speak is all about making things shorter and easier to type, so to help you work out the what this lingo is all about, here are some of the most popular abbreviations used in text:
- @ – at
- ? – question
- b – be
- c – see
- coz – because
- dat – that
- dem – them
- fil – feel
- gud – good
- luv – love
- am – morning
- pm – evening
- noon – afternoon
- r – are
- rsvp – respond upon receiving
- w/o – without
- w/ – with
- y – why
Words that have similar sounds to numbers are also shortened for instance:
- m8 – mate
- 4get – forget
- 2moro – tomorrow
- cul8r – see you later
- b4 – before
- d8 – date
